The Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, KTRH is on the spot once again.
Despite the County government of Kisii working so hard to install the most sophisticated and modern facilities at the hospital it's shocking that the facility is still offering 3rd class services to its clients. On a personal account I've encountered several challenges whenever I visit the hospital to seek services.
I attribute the challenges in the hospital to a lazy and incompetent staff. Though it's fare to note that there is a small portion of staff who are dedicated and doing their work as required.
These are some few cases I've encountered in the hospital and I know that many others are happening! A friend was involved in a very tragic accident and rushed to the hospital early on a Tuesday morning, it took the intervention of his colleagues from work to bring chaos at the facility several hours later for the guy to be put under a life support machine, the reason for neglect not understood. Somebody somwhere didn't want to do his/her job before being pushed.
Just last week a friend rushed his ailing sister in pain to the emergency room of the facility only to get unattended for several hours. The patient lying there in pain for almost 6 hours only to be attended after the family put so much pressure which almost led to chaos at the hospital is when a doctor came in to attend to the patient. The emergency section of the hospital must be in very sorry state.
On a personal account I dropped by the hospital on a Sunday morning at around 7am to have an ailing child checked on. I paid for the card and told to queue. When I was about to see the Doctor I was advised to go to the children section of the hospital. I went and realized it was closed. I patiently sat there for an hour waiting for the pediatrician in vain. Went back to the consultation room and requested whether the Dr there could check on the baby and I was again turned back. 2hrs later at 9am the pediatrician was nowhere, I then left to a nearby private hospital where the baby was attended in 15 minutes and left. I kept wondering whether the several babies I'd left at KTRH with their guardians were ever attended to and after how long.
These are just the very few cases I've been able to get hold on, I know much could be happening and never not highlighted.
What is the purpose of having such a prestigious facility but with such shoddy and low class services. Are those machines and buildings a museum or what? I don't understand whether it's shortage of manpower causing all that or it's just laziness from some quarters or it's because the hospital has been overwhelmed by the number of patients visiting the KTRH.
I do appreciate that services at KTRH have improved greatly and they can't be at a level to satisfy everyone 100% but I still insist that they are below bar. Something needs to be done.
As I conclude, I expect this post to be handled not with reactionary bitter nature but on a very liberal ground. This is not an opportunity for a political showdown nor it is a platform for some people to start squaring out grudges with one another or to some people they don't like for one reason or another. It's just a concern that something needs to be done to better the services at the KTRH.

Generali Osumo Jnr.
